AfriTutor for schools

Online tutoring that helps your pupils catch up and keep up.

One-to-one lessons with checked, qualified tutors, for schools in the UK and Nigeria. Built for the pupils who need it most, including disadvantaged pupils, learners with SEND and pupils learning in English as an additional language.

Why tutoring

One of the best-evidenced ways to raise attainment

The Education Endowment Foundation finds that small group tuition adds around four months' progress over a year, and works best with regular sessions over about 10 weeks. One-to-one tutoring is more intensive still.

  • Personalised. Each pupil gets their own tutor, working on the gaps their teacher has spotted.
  • Fits your timetable. Lessons in school hours, after school or in the holidays, booked to suit you.
  • Two curricula, one platform. UK and Nigerian curricula and exams, taught by tutors who know them.
  • Easy to report on. Lesson notes and a progress summary support your Pupil Premium strategy or termly reporting.

Pupils with SEND

English as an additional language

Support for new arrivals and pupils learning in English, from everyday English to exam-ready writing.

Safeguarding

Safe by design

We know you're trusting us with your pupils. These rules apply to every tutor and every lesson.

  • Checked tutors. Identity, qualifications, and an Enhanced DBS check (UK) or police clearance (Nigeria), before anyone teaches.
  • Every lesson recorded and kept for 90 days, so anything can be checked.
  • No private contact. Phone numbers, emails, links and social media handles are blocked on AfriTutor.
  • Clear reporting. Concerns go straight to our team, who can suspend accounts and will follow your school's safeguarding procedures.

FAQs

Questions schools ask

Which subjects and levels do you cover?
Maths, English and the sciences from Key Stage 2 to A level in the UK, and primary, JSS and SSS in Nigeria, including WAEC, NECO and BECE preparation. We also teach English as an additional language for any age. Tell us what you need and we'll match tutors to it.
Where do lessons happen?
Online, in the AfriTutor lesson room: live video with a shared whiteboard, in the browser. Pupils can join from school during the day or from home. They need a laptop or tablet with a camera, microphone and headphones.
How are tutors checked?
Every tutor's identity and qualifications are checked by our team before they can teach. UK tutors need an Enhanced DBS certificate; Nigerian tutors need a police clearance certificate. Every lesson is recorded, and contact details can't be shared on the platform.
How do we pay?
UK schools are invoiced in pounds by AfriTutor Ltd; Nigerian schools in naira. Many UK schools use Pupil Premium. See our funding guide for the options in each country.
Will we see how pupils are doing?
Yes. Tutors write a short note after every lesson, and we send you a progress summary at the end of each programme, so you can report on impact.
