AfriTutor brings together qualified tutors from the UK, Nigeria and beyond, with real expertise in both British and African education. Here's why families, schools and tutors choose us.

2 curricula

UK and African curricula and exams, on one platform

Every tutor checked

ID, qualifications and a background check before teaching

80% to tutors

Fair pay for teachers, paid automatically in their own currency

Life skills too

Mentoring for teens, young adults, parents and adults, not just exam subjects

For parents and students

The right tutor, safely, at a fair price

UK and African curricula, in one place

GCSE, A level and Entry Level Certificates alongside BECE, WAEC and NECO, taught by tutors who know each syllabus. Ideal for families in the diaspora and for pupils moving between systems.

Specialists in SEND and English as an additional language

Find tutors experienced with special educational needs and with learners new to English. Share your child's needs privately with their tutor when you add them.

Every tutor is checked

Our team checks each tutor's identity, qualifications and background (Enhanced DBS in the UK, police clearance in Nigeria) before they can teach.

Every lesson is recorded

Watch any lesson again for 30 days. Recordings keep everyone safe, and contact details can't be shared on AfriTutor.

More than tutoring

Alongside lessons, our Life Skills & Mentoring helps teens and young adults with confidence, money, careers and more, and supports parents too.

Pay only when a tutor accepts

You pay when you send a request; if the tutor declines or doesn't answer within 24 hours, you're refunded automatically. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Your currency, no subscription

Pay in pounds in the UK or naira in Nigeria. No sign-up fee or subscription, and you can message tutors free before you book.

Life Skills & Mentoring, as well as tutoring

Most tutoring platforms stop at exam subjects. AfriTutor also helps people with the skills that shape their lives, from checked mentors who've been there, one-to-one or in small groups that cost less per person.

  • Teens (13 to 17): study habits and exam skills, confidence and public speaking, online safety, money basics, careers.
  • Young adults (16 and over): cvs and interviews, budgeting, university choices, starting a business.
  • Parents (for mums, dads and carers): raising teenagers, supporting learning at home, parenting across two cultures.
  • Adults (18 and over): marriage and relationships, financial planning, personal growth.

For schools

A tutoring partner for UK and Nigerian schools

Two curricula, one partner

One platform for UK and Nigerian schools, with tutors matched to your exam boards and syllabuses.

Built for the pupils who need it most

Programmes for disadvantaged pupils, SEND and EAL learners, and exam classes, shaped around the EEF evidence on tutoring.

Safeguarding you can check

Checked tutors, recorded lessons kept for 90 days, no private contact, and a clear route for reporting concerns.

Easy to fund and report on

Programmes that fit Pupil Premium plans, invoices in pounds or naira, lesson notes and a progress summary for every pupil.

For tutors

Teach the way you want, and be paid fairly

Keep 80% of every lesson

Set your own hourly rate. You keep 80%; AfriTutor's 20% covers payments, the lesson room, recordings and support.

Paid automatically

UK tutors are paid through Stripe after each lesson; Nigerian tutors get a weekly bank transfer in naira through Paystack.

Paid for late cancellations

If a family cancels less than 24 hours before a lesson, you're still paid for the time you kept free.

Everything in your browser

Video, a shared whiteboard and recordings, with nothing to install. Set your hours and accept the lessons you want.

Mentor as well as tutor

Share your life experience as a Life Skills mentor, one-to-one or with small groups, alongside or instead of academic tutoring.

A platform that values African teachers

We especially want to hear from talented teachers across Africa, and we welcome qualified tutors everywhere.
